CCIB candidates must have a minimum of five consecutive years of insurance industry experience, be currently practicing as an insurance broker, and members in good standing of IBANS. Although a resource study manual is available there is no formal course of study for the CCIB as the candidates are challenged on their practical knowledge of insurance coverages. The CCIB exams test knowledge of all aspects of property and casualty commercial insurance; candidates must have a comprehensive understanding of the statutory conditions, insurance agreements, policy conditions and legal concepts. The CCIB designation is awarded by IBANS and based upon criteria established by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada.
There are three examinations:
- Essay style Questionnaire
- Short Answer Questionnaire
- Choice of Oral or Written Survey Examination.
** The two written questionnaires are pre-requisites to the Oral/Written Survey Examination.
