Insurance Awards 2010
The Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia (IBANS) has once again hosted their Annual Insurance Awards Dinner showcasing top-class performance and innovation among members of the industry.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate excellence in our profession,” says Karen Slaunwhite, IBANS executive director. “Award winners have been selected because they best represent the value and commitment of all brokers. As a profession, insurance brokers set the bar high in all that they do, whether advising clients or giving back to their communities. They give 100 per cent.”
Awards for the following six categories were presented during a dinner held April 15th at the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.

Brokerage of the Year
W.C.L. Bauld Insurance Brokers received this award for best reflecting the values of the association, including dedication to clients and the industry, community involvement, volunteerism and professional development in core business values.
Steve Earle, broker principal of W.C.L. Bauld Insurance Brokers attributes his firm’s success to having a well educated staff and doing the “best that we can for our clients”.
Client Service Award
Liz Cosgrove, regional operations director for metro and northern regions, Macdonald Chisholm Trask Insurance is the recipient of this year’s award. This award honours an individual working at a brokerage that goes above and beyond the regular call of duty to ensure that client needs are met.
Training Award
SNC Insurance Brokers Incorporated won in this category for being the brokerage that best promotes and encourages professional development with its staff.
Young Broker of the Year
Darren Lipsett, vice president commercial lines, Bridgewater Insurance is this year’s recipient. The award honours a broker under 40 who has made significant strides in professional development over the past year, and who has clearly demonstrated his or her contribution to the team or brokerage in which he or she works, to clients, IBANS, and to the industry.
Volunteer Service Award
Alfred A. Poirier, commercial insurance broker, A.A. Munro Insurance Limited is the 2010 recipient of the Volunteer Service Award. This award is presented to an individual who inspires the spirit of volunteerism in others and participates in activities that positively contribute to the quality of life for their communities.
Insurance Representative of the Year
Bree Rudolph, personal lines underwriting specialist with RSA was this year’s recipient. This award recognizes a representative working for a general insurance company, for product and service innovation and all round service to brokers.
