As a member of the Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia (IBANS), you belong to a provincial trade organization of property and casualty insurance intermediaries whose members write over 80% of the property/casualty business in Nova Scotia.
IBANS promotes insurance brokers as the consumer’s preferred distributor of property and casualty insurance in Nova Scotia.
Through strong leadership and a commitment to excellence, IBANS strengthens and enhances the image, market share and profitability of its members.
All applications must be approved by IBANS Board of Directors. Once approved you will be contacted regarding your membership status.

 Can my brokerage decide to take out membership at any point in the year? posted on March 11, 2021

Yes, membership applications are accepted at any time. Once approved by our board your membership fee would be prorated based on the month you join. Our fiscal year runs from July 1 – June 30.

 If I decide to cancel my membership do I get a refund? posted on March 11, 2021

No, refunds are granted when brokerages cancel their membership.

 Since part of the cost for membership includes licensed brokers will I be billed each time I add or remove an employee from my brokerage? posted on March 11, 2021

No, you are billed once annually upon renewal which includes the number of licensed brokers and branch locations you have at that time. However, we recommend adding and removing staff or branches throughout the year to ensure information appearing on our Find a Broker page is accurate and we have the correct contact details to share information about our programs, events and services with your staff.

IBANS will accept payment in the form of a cheque or EFT transfers for membership. The information required for EFT Transfer can be obtained by calling the provincial office.

 I keep seeing expired on my profile? Does this mean I am no longer a member? posted on July 8, 2021

IBANS enters its new fiscal year July 1. Those member brokerages in our system appear as expired for 60 days until they complete their renewal. All renewals must be done before the end of August. Staff employed by a member brokerage can still receive member rates for education and attend events during the 60 days up to August 30.

Unfortunately, no consideration is given to membership with other provincial insurance associations.
