Be sure to review your travel policy with your broker before heading off on vacation. Keep in mind that even if your travels do not take you south of the border, coverage differs from province-to-province making it advisable to secure coverage even when traveling within Canada.

If you have pre-existing medical conditions, and especially if you have had a change in medications, medical tests or have seen a doctor other than for a regular check-up, you should ask about potential exclusions to your travel insurance coverage.  Many policies limit or deny coverage for pre-existing medical conditions.

It also pays to be sure you are aware of basic coverage rules before planning your vacation activities. Many higher-risk sporting activities, such a heli-skiing , hang gliding, and scuba diving, can result in a lack of coverage in the event of death or injury.

Be sure to fully disclose any pre-existing health conditions when applying for travel insurance. In planning vacation activities, also make sure you are aware that if you choose to participate in certain activities, you may forgo coverage.
