• Trim your trees – keep branches clear of your home and power lines.
• Clean your gutters – this will prevent obstructions that could lead to water and ice damage.
• Be prepared for power loss – keep an emergency kit ready with candles, flashlights, non-perishable food, water and blankets.
• Check your foundation for cracks that could result in a source for leaks – ensure water is draining away from your home – turn off outside taps and store hoses for the winter.
• Have your chimney cleaned in preparation for cozy fires.
• Have your heating system checked and serviced before the cold weather sets in.
• If traveling to stay with friends and family, be sure to leave the heat on. Make plans to have a reliable individual check your home daily while you are away.
