Job Description / Duties

The Opportunity
The Halifax General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the office, as well as managing all personal lines and administrative staff. Working in cooperation with the Halifax Commercial Manager, the Halifax General Manager is responsible for adequate staffing to meet the needs of clients at all times, ensures computers and other equipment are in place, communicates as required with building owners for required maintenance, manages the office’s budget, and escalates issues to senior management as required.
Specific duties include:
1.Oversee training, hiring, and annual reviews of staff, and other related human resources issues
2.Ensure office adherence to corporate procedures for processing of renewals, endorsements, certificates, underwriting requirements, auditing of accounts, invoicing, aged receivables, and other areas requiring standards
3.Act as main point of contact in office for:
Technical support for computers and software such as The Agency Manager
Insuring partners to coordinate staff training, product roll-out, audits, etc…
4.Responsible for dealing with company and client issues on behalf of personal lines staff and as required escalating issues to senior management
5.Review Aged Receivables monthly and assign Account Managers to follow-up
6.Approve office spending and deal with building management
7.Complete and submit monthly reports to Regional Manager
8.Participate in annual manager’s meetings each Fall
9.New business promotion/lead generation
10.Management of key clients as required
11.Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
•Five to ten years experience in the insurance industry
•CAIB, CIP and/or level 3 general insurance licensing in the province of Nova Scotia
•Experience in general management and human resources
•Excellent communications skills and attention to detail
•A working knowledge of The Agency Manager (TAM) broker management system would be an asset
